NDS has seen a significant increase of drone-based requests throughout the nation. NDS uses drones for everything from turning movement counts, origin-destination studies, screenline counts, parking studies, general observations, freeway interchanges, queueing, and more.

When is it beneficial to use a drone? As in many things, it depends on the situation. For all studies conducted with NDS, we consider every relevant technology as they relate to cost and accuracy. While you’re always invited to reach out to find out if the use of a drone would be advantageous, here are some factors to consider:
- If you were flying at drone height, would your eyes be able to see the details that you need captured?
- Are there trees, carports, or other obstructions that could prevent you from capturing the needed information?
- Do you need to know parking by space type, curb color, or sign marking?
